Messages of Hope Touch Lives in Rockford

Rockford, Mich. – On Sabbath, September 6, members of the Three Angels Fellowship church opened their hearts to the Rockford community through a Mental Health Solidarity Outreach at Downtown Rockford Garden Park.

Taking place during Suicide Awareness Month, the event blended professional support with personal, Spirit-led conversations—showing the community that Adventists are present and that they care.

At the center of the outreach stood a large message wall, designed by church member Larry Hatcher. Community members were invited to write words of encouragement for those struggling with mental health challenges. People approached the wall quietly, pausing to read, reflect, and then add their own notes of hope. Some stayed longer, opening up for deeper conversations in the safe space that had been created.

The project, which received the city’s support after a town hall meeting, coincided with Rockford’s “Art in the Park” festivities nearby. Visitors were warmly welcomed by Verna Schloutthaer, Rose Wiseman, Brenda Reinholz, Reese Andrejczak, Ellie Morgan, and Amy Ortego, who, along with other members, helped guide conversations and share resources.

Among the 25–30 church members serving that day were three Adventist mental health professionals—Jeremy Hall, Dr. Gunther Schwartz, and Dr. Helen Ceballo-Hernandez—who provided counseling for anyone in need. Members also distributed Steps to Christ, GodInk stickers, and mental health materials, while connecting with those interested in Bible studies.

Led by the church’s Personal Ministries team, the outreach reflected a multigenerational effort and a fresh approach to evangelism—intentionally bridging the conversation on mental health with the hope found in Jesus.

The response was heartfelt. The wall became more than a project—it became a place where the light of Christ could shine.
